Biography
Recently arrived from a 4 month long musical journey through numerous countries across Europe celebrating the post-pandemic opening of borders, the Zurito crew has just landed in their homebase in London again. Highlights of this years’ trip include great success in the cities of Granada and Almeria in Andalucia, the land where flamenco music comes from, celebrated performances at the Swiss Montreux Jazz Festival Jam highly cherished by the audience and the festival organizers alike, and a deep connection with the artistic scene in the city of Wroclaw in Poland. Since the launch of their first album in September 2020, some 1500 copies have been sold during shows in a variety of cities in the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Switzerland, Check Republic, Poland, Denmark and the Netherlands, with the biggest bulk having sold in many performances through South West London, principally Brixton, Herne Hill, Dulwich, and the Battersea, Wandsworth and Putney embankments of the River Thames.
Zurito was born in 2020 after Javi Perez, Teresa Sarda and Alan Ashton recorded some of the songs they were playing around the southwestern banks of the river Thames in London during the outbreak of COVID - 19. Armed with a card reader to respect social distancing whilst generating income to sustain their music making they entertained and cheered up the local communities and transformed the unexpected grim season into some very special months that marked the beginning of this project. Javi and Tere's musical travelling legacy matches perfectly with Alan's solid caribbean and groovy bass lines, solidifying in a mix mainly drawing from flamenco, rumba, calypso, classical, caribbean, african, gypsy, spanish, rock and jazz.
Their first album ‘Tamesis’ was recorded during May 2020 and released on the 25th of September under their own label Musical Universes. It contains the home-recordings that hint the beginning sound that the band has developed to this present day.
